What is the best way to make thick, long hair hold a curl?

My hair is very thick and long. Every time I try to get bouncy curls, they just fall out within minutes. I've tried using extra strong hairspray, but nothing really works. Any advice ladies??What is the best way to make thick, long hair hold a curl?
do smaller sections and spray hairspray on each section and right b4 you curl each strand spray it down and then spray it right after wards.
